İn this lesson we will clarify family lexis and practice correct pronunciation. We will do some listening after pre-teaching necessary vocabulary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) What have you learned with Nasim? elicit months, dates, New Year's Day --- 2) Pass on the photo of my family on the New Year's Day --- elicit the words husband, wife, son, daughter, children, parents, and finally family 3) Write Family on the WB (top) as a context for the lesson

Vocabulary (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1) Instructions: make a list of the other family members (ex sister, brother) ICQ: Alone or in pairs? Alone 2) Let them check in pair 3) For FB ask students randomly to elicit all the answers 4) Give out the answer key in HOs 5) Read out loud and drill the correct pronunciation of the words and the meaning of son & daughter-in-law, niece vs nephew, mother-in-law vs stepmother, spelling of niece & nephew

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1) Instructions: Write the questions on the WB: Do you have a son? How many sister do you have? (leave the questions on the board to make sure they practice correct sentences, delete after a few minutes of the exercise to make it more challenging) Demo: Ask the student and fill in the form drawn on the board ICQ: What questions do we use? Alone or in pair? Alone 2) Give out handouts and motivate by saying Who will be the first to finish? 3) Monitor and collect some mistakes 4) Do some error correctıon on the WB 3)FB asking the students randomly (using he/she has..)

Pre- teaching vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for listening

1) Grouping in 6 teams say: Youre going to listen about 5 famous families in English literature but firstly lets learn some new words 2) İnstructions: Each team will have 1 minute to show the word. You will work as a group to show the word. You can use dictionaries to check the meanings. The team to guess what is shown will get a point. İCQs: Do you talk to explain the word? How much time have you got? Do you show alone or in groups? 3) Give the flashcards. Give 3-4 minutes to prepare. say: Lets start with group no 1. Control the time. Give points. 4) After each presentation show the corresponding word on the PPP slide and drill the pronunciation

Detailed listening (10-15 minutes) • Develop receptive skills

1) Introduction: Who is WiIlliam Shakespeare? A famous English writer. Do you know any plays written by him? Probably they will know Romeo and Juliet. Any other? Othello? Pass on to the instructions 2)İnstructions: say: You will hear 5 short stories about Shakespeare's families. There are 5. list them on the WB Ask: What does family tree mean? say: Listen and match the family tree to one of the stories. İCQ: How many stories? 5 Alone or in pairs? Alone İf needed play the recording twice. 2) Group check. 3) FB from groups
