Materials

Abc Pictures

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about an article about 'How many of the people would like to leave home?' in the context of Ideal home-different parts of houses
  • To provide clarification of second conditional in the context of Ideal home-different parts of houses

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of houses in the context of Ideal home-different parts of houses

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I have provided some pictures of two different houses so that I can ask some questions related to my main aim to give a warm up to my students ; For example ' which one is your ideal house ?' or 'If you could live in one of them for the rest of your life , which would you choose ?'

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students are going to read a text about how other people would like their ideal house to be like . After asking them to have a gist reading , now it's time to check the result . The questions are based on the text and they have short answers . For example : 1. Who is not happy living at home because of family conflict? 2.Who thinks his/her parents think of him/her as still being a teenager? 3. Who thinks that the advantage of living at home is not having to do any work? 4.Who would like to be able to decorate his/her home in his/her own taste? And then students are going to answer the questions in pairs then check with the class and comment their ideas .

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Now it's time to write the structure on board using different colors so it would be easier for them to understand .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

It would be great to ask them to make some sentences or I can give a topic and ask them to talk about their opinion and thoughts on it . Example : What would you do If you won the lottery ? Or we can play a game as we did on previous sessions : Student A starts the sentence "If I won the lottery , I would buy a house ! '' Student B " If I won the lottery , I would buy a house and I would buy a car !" Student C" If I won the ...... and e.t.c..
