Description

In this lesson, Ss will discuss and express their opinion about different kind of parties, parties' main features and reasons. Ss will practice different reading skills, such as gist, skim and scan reading. Ss will learn and practice new lexis about parties, celebrations in PW, GW.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage Ss

T sticks several pictures on the WB for the topic's (celebration) introduction T asks what the Ss see in it, what is the connection between the pictures. T asks Ss what kinds of party do they know? T sticks the printed names of parties and the WB, also writes down the new ones (Ss' mentioned, if there are any).

Pre-Reading (4-6 minutes) • To prepare Ss for the text

GW, T forms 5 groups of 6 Ss. T gives Ss clean paper cuts. T asks: what do you think makes a good party and why? Write the list and agree on the three most important ingredients of a good party. Music plays. Ss give FB to the WC about their 3 ingredients.

Pre-Reading, cut ups matching (4-6 minutes) • Ss are exposed to new lexis

Ss are grouped in 5 groups of 6 T gives cut-ups, Ss work in Gs, match the words with the definitions T asks students to stand up and check other groups whether they put it in the same order or not T asks from each G the meaning of the words, one of the Ss from each group gives the answer T provides the answer key T sticks two pictures on the WB with "fairy", explain that there are "fair" and "air" words in it, also can compare with the words "hear" and "ear" (hear with your ear) Do some drills

Gist reading (3-4 minutes) • To let Ss get an idea of the text

T tells Ss to have a quick look at the list of party's ingredients (and 3 most important) that they wrote before Focus the Ss' attention on the text, give the text to the Ss Individual work; ask them to read the text quickly (skim it) to find out if any of their ideas are mentioned T asks each G (from previous task Ss still sit in the same Gs) about the new good party's ingredients that they found in the text

Scanning (8-12 minutes) • Ss will practise their ability to quickly find specific information in the text

T focuses Ss attention on task nr. 2. WC read the description a) Individual work, do the same with the rest. Is it a PW? - No. Is it a GW? - No. Is it an individual work? - Yes. PW, check the answers T asks SS for the answers, write on the WB.

Post- Reading (4-6 minutes) • To practise new lexis

Task 3. Have you ever thrown a + name of party?? When and why? What was it like? Ss mingle with each other and try to find out who, what kind of, when and why have thrown a party (SS can look at the WB full of parties' names). Music plays. T asks: who has thrown a bachelor, a pool, a surprise party? Ss report back to the class.

Extra activity (4-6 minutes) • to learn different names of parties, practise reading and understanding

T gives the handouts, does one demo with the WC, Ss do the task individually. PW, Ss check the answers with their colleagues. T elicits the answers from the C, writes down the A on the WB. PW, Ss discuss when and why people have the parties written on the WB. Music plays. T asks several Ss FB, Ss describe the chosen parties.
