Description

In this lesson, Ss learn how to use collocation (phrases) with make and do form. In addition, Ss will listen to someone describing a festival to answer gist questions and find specific information. Ss will speak with each other about their last new year's Eve.

Procedure

Introducing the topic of new year's festivals and giving handouts to discuss (5-6 minutes) • eliciting TL in speaking practise

T will show SS picture taken from a new year's Eve festival in their country. T will ask SS: ' what are these people doing in this photo? are they celebrating? what kind of celebration is that?where has this photo been taken from? after getting some answers, T states the difference between Christmas and new year Eve and T is going to ask 'at what time of the year do we celebrate new year's Eve?. T will nominate some SS to ask them about their last new year's Eve and what they did and who they were with.After getting the answers from SS, T will give them a handout containing questions about their last new year's Eve to discuses it with their partners.T will ask ICCQ question( are you going to write or discuses something?

Pre-listening (4-5 minutes) • getting them familiar with the topic in the listening exercise that elicits the TL

T will show them two pictures taken from Chinese festival and ask them these questions: When do Chinese people celebrate their new year's Eve? what do they eat? Then T will say we are going to find out but before you will guess by answering whether these statements are correct or not and then T is going to give them a handout containing these statements and ask them to work in pairs and they will be given a limited time.

prediction (2-3 minutes) • checking their answers and TL purpose

T is going to say" now we will listen to a recording to make sure of your expectations whether they are correct or not. T will play the audio and when it is done T will ask SS to check their answers in pairs to see if their answers are similar or not. ICQ: are you going to correct the answers or solve them and then T will check the answers with the whole class.

Exercise 1 vocabulary (4-6 minutes) • checking the students' understanding of the listening and getting them to use collocations of make and do

T will ask SS to underline the correct verbs in the Exercise one extract from the listening recording about Chinese New Year. T will say' try to remember the record you have listen to and answer these questions.Then, T will put them into pairs to work together. After that, checking answers with the whole class.

Exercise 2 (4-5 minutes) • practice using collocations of make and do

T is going to ask SS to complete the questions with the correct form of do or make and that should be done in pairs and after that T will check the answers with the whole class before asking them to ask each other these questions. ICQ: which questions are you going to ask each other ?

Feedback (2-3 minutes) • testing their understanding of collocations

T will take feedback from SS by asking them' which verb do we use with each of these words? the housework- the cooking - the shopping - a promise...... T will ask them to answer the feedback questions very quickly without looking at their handouts.

Exercise 3 (3-4 minutes) • for SS to get used to using collocation of make and do

T will give SS some time to work with their partners on exercise 3 and explain any word that they might have difficulty with to make it easy for them to do the exercise correctly.

checking answers and final feedback (3-4 minutes) • to be the TL totally clear

T will check their answers in Exercise 3 with the whole class and taking the final feedback to make sure that lesson was completely understood by asking them whether these statements are correct or not : I have done a decision? incorrect I have done a promise? incorrect

writing sentences (4-5 minutes) • practicing collocations

T will ask SS to write individually five sentences using the collocations of make and do.T would say' please every one write five sentences on your own using collocations and then asking some of them to read theirs loudly.
