Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • Activate students' background and introduce the topic

I'm going to display the smart home image in page 76 and I'm gonna ask the students: - what is a smart home? - what smart technology do you use at home? - would you like to live in a smart home? why/why not?

Listening (13-15 minutes) • Practice listening for gist and specific information

Ex. 2&3 Page 76 I'm going to play the recording twice: -First: listen for general ideas -Second: Will do the MCQ task in Ex.3 -Check answers together -Briefly discuss surprising or interesting points

Grammar in context (12-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- First for the clarification part I will tell them about a situation using the target language to let them understand the use, then explain the structure of the target language, they will read the example sentences. - Second: I will ask CCQs to ensure they understand the use and structure. - Third: I will use the board to elicit the structure

Controlled Practice (18-22 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

They will solve Ex.3&4 Page 77, I will let them work in pairs and then check their answers together

Grammar Focus - Gerunds and infinitives (15-18 minutes) • Understand the difference between gerund and infinitive use

- First for clarification I will use a situation to let them understand the use and structure of the target language - Second they will solve Ex. 6 page 77, then check the answers together. - With Ex. 7 will do the same as Ex. 6, the checking together

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ex. 8 page 77 - talk about sentences in Ex. 7 - Are these true for you? - Why do you like playing tennis? - Why do you want to get a good job?
