Description

In this lesson , students learn how to talk in past tense and they can talk about different things that they experienced before. they also learn some new words which they can use in their talking . They listen to a listening audio to practice more while they're concentrating on completing the task .

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of simple past in the context of travel-daily life
  • To provide review of traveling in the context of travel-daily life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about simple past in the context of travel-daily life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I have printed some pictures from vocabulary part so we can discuss about them.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

After students talked for a while , we will check some words that I think are new to them and then we will talk about them and using them in our sentences .

presentation (5-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

At this point , the students know that we are talking about the past and that the structure to make a regular verb into a past tense . So here I will ask them to have a gist reading and then they have to answer the questions that I've prepared . After they answered the questions , it's time to listen to the audio file .( It's better to take a pause after each past verb so they can repeat and get familiar to the structure and pronunciation .(/d/ - /t/ - /ed/ )

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Now it's time to work on pronunciation by listening to the listening part . Write the exceptions on board and clarify the reason . /ed/ => t , d (at the end of the verb) /t/ => ch , s , p , k , f , sh (at the end of the verb) /d/ => the rest .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Write three questions on board and ask students to work in pairs . If there was time , you can give a positive sentence to a student and ask them to turn it into a negative and question sentence or vice versa .
