Main Aims

  • Improve listening confidence through mixed audio sources and summarizing

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Activity: Students work in pairs or small groups. Instructor says a sentence with a blank, and students guess the missing future form or connector. Examples: I ___ check the surgery room before lunch. (will) We can do the X-rays ___ the client arrives. (after) Use 5–6 examples, gradually increasing speed.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (23-25 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

First Listening Students write 1 future plan and 1 connector phrase they hear. Second Listening Students check their answers in pairs and identify time expressions (before, then, at 2:00, etc.) Instructor reviews strong examples and clarifies meaning.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Main Task – Phrase Hunt + Clinic Summary (20 mins) Students receive a worksheet with 2 columns: Column A: sentences from the clips with missing words Column B: events to order into a correct timeline Tasks: Fill in the blanks with future forms and connectors Reorder the events from one of the clips based on clues and sequence markers

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
