Procedure (52-60 minutes)
Activity: Write the connectors on the board: and, but, so, because Ask in pairs: Which of these do you use when you speak Spanish? What do they mean? Can you give one example for each in your own words? Instructor collects ideas and boards 1 sample sentence per connector.
Guided Listening – Song: Count on Me by Bruno Mars (20–25 mins) First Listening (with lyrics) Distribute a lyrics handout with selected connectors blanked out. Students listen and: Fill in the blanks with and, but, so, because Circle any phrases they recognize from class or daily life Second Listening (without lyrics) Students listen again and mark: Tone and emotion How the connectors help give meaning to each line
Connector Categorization After reviewing the lyrics: Students highlight all connectors in the song In pairs, categorize them into 4 types: adding (and), contrast (but), cause (because), result (so) Each pair writes 1 new sentence using each connector in a clinic-related context Optional: share one example per group with the class.
Ask: Which connector was easiest to hear? How did the music help you understand the meaning?
