Description

In this lesson students learn the difference between present continuous and simple present and also learn about vocabulary related in clothes. They have some reading which is the main aim of the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Undercover Boss, TV show in the context of Jobs in a hotel and inspection

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of The difference between present simple and present continuous in the context of Jobs in a hotel and inspection and clothes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

At this stage I am going to ask the students to guess some jobs in a hotel. Then I draw a mind map of "Jobs In A Hotel".

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

At this stage I am going to ask some questions to elicit and pre-teach the words in the reading that the students do not know. Then the students are provided to read a short text about a TV show which they should answer a question at the end of it.

Presentation (8-15 minutes) • To make students more engaged with the task and to draw their attention to the task.

First, the teacher prepares and writes some questions on the board ( they are related to the text). The students should work in pairs and answer the questions (short answers). Then they read the text. Now they have time to answer the True/False HO in pairs. This is the time to work in groups ,which are consisting of 3 or 4 people, to read again and check their answers. They also have to find the reason for false questions.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the difference between simple present and present continuous, then CCQ to get feedback

First we are going to ask some detailed questions from the text to drag the students' attention to find out the different situation ( routine and special situation). Then they have two pictures of a soccer player to look at them and understand the difference.

Presentation and Practice (15-20 minutes) • To teach the Vocabulary in clothes and Practice them with some pictures

At this stage we are going to learn the vocabulary about clothes and play a game to match the pictures with their names in the class together. After that they have to make a sentence in simple present tense with the picture they have.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

At this stage the students have time to work in pairs and answer some questions about the grammar part ( simple present and present continuous). The questions are clear and easy to understand to make the students feel confident and prepare themselves for harder questions.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

At the last stage I have prepared some google images to provide the students to work in groups and practice all the things they have learned from the beginning of this session to the end. The will look at some photos of famous people including actors, actresses, soccer player to make sentences and use their L2 to get involved with the subject.
