W1 Speaking May 21 - Wednesday
A1-B1 Vets Gen2 level
Materials
Main Aims
-
Practice fluency in talking about future tasks using time sequencing
Subsidiary Aims
-
Use connectors (and, but, so, because) to create smooth clinic narratives
Procedure (82-90 minutes)
Activity: Students sit in small groups and build a chain of tasks for a fictional clinic day. Example structure: Student A: At 8 I’ll check the appointments Student B: Then I’m seeing a cat for surgery Student C: After that I will clean the recovery room Continue until each student adds 2–3 future actions.
Activity: Give students a list of 10 clinic actions and 8 connector words (and, but, before, after, then, because, so, while). Their task: Build 5 connected sentences using a mix of connectors and future forms. They present their mini paragraph to a partner or small group. Feedback: Peers note 1 connector and 1 time expression used correctly.
Schedule Builder Race Students receive a partially completed clinic schedule (with 5 blanks). In small teams: Create and present a complete schedule using future forms and at least 5 connectors Each student is responsible for writing and explaining 2 tasks Teams present to each other. Instructor rotates and notes accurate use of sequence and connector expressions. Open Discussion – Clinic Scheduling Problems Prompt: What are the most common problems in veterinary scheduling? Discussion Questions: What do you do when emergencies interrupt your plans? How do you organize time when there are surgeries, vaccines, and check-ups? What do you wish you had more time for? Students discuss in small groups, then share 1 summary point with the class.
Instructor boards a few expressions overheard during discussion (some strong, some in need of correction). Students correct and rewrite as a group. Optional homework: Describe a day in your clinic using at least 4 connectors.
