W1 Speaking May 20 - Tuesday
A1-B1 Vets Gen2 level

Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • Practice describing future tasks and expressing contrast or cause-effect

Subsidiary Aims

  • Use connectors fluently in extended speech

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students receive task cards (clinic actions: give vaccine, clean tools, check X-rays). They create 2–3 future plans using connectors: Examples: I will give the vaccine and then write the report I’m checking the bloodwork because the dog was lethargic Pairs compare their plans.

Useful Language (23-25 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Guided Speaking – Schedule Shuffle Instructor gives short task list with conflicting times. Students must rephrase the schedule using connectors: I can’t do the X-rays because I’ll be in surgery We will clean the cages but we might be late Students share with a partner and check for variety in connector use.

Productive Task(s) (33-35 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Open Discussion – Clinic Realities (30 mins) Prompt: What are the most common reasons why a schedule changes in a clinic? Small groups discuss: How do vets usually adapt their day? What happens when emergencies appear? What would you change about how your current clinic organizes time? Encourage use of future forms and connectors. Instructor circulates and gathers language for feedback.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Class reviews: What were the most useful expressions or connectors? Instructor boards student samples (good and improvable) Students work in pairs to rewrite two phrases using different connector or time structure Optional Homework: Write 4 connected sentences about your clinic schedule for tomorrow
