Activity: Display a weekly planner (clinic appointments). Ask in pairs: What kinds of tasks are usually written in a planner? How do people explain why tasks are scheduled? Elicit responses. Instructor highlights use of future forms + connectors: Examples: seeing a surgery and then doing lab work; skipping lunch because of emergencies
First Listening (with subtitles) Students listen and underline connectors: and, but, so, because Also circle time-related expressions: later, before lunch, right after Check in pairs.
Students receive a set of scrambled planner items and matching explanations. They must listen again and match: Appointments or duties Connector phrase explaining order or reason Example: Check on the kitten because she was vomiting Review files and prepare for the surgery Pairs work through 6 tasks and check their full schedule together.
Quick pair check: Which connectors were used most often? How did they help understand the vet’s schedule? Instructor boards good phrases and reviews any common confusion between so/because. Homework: Write 3 future actions + a reason for each using and, but, or because.
