To provide clarification of First conditional in the context of Everyday stuff
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Everyday stuff
Procedure (16-20 minutes)
The students will be asked a question (Have you ever experienced the situation which you are waiting in a long queue in a store and you change to another queue that is moving more quickly? What do you think will happen next?). And I will write the answer on the board. Then I will tell the students the definition of Murphy’s law (If there is something that can go wrong, it will go wrong).
The students will be asked about the same experiences and I will write some of the sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.
I will clarify the meaning by writing some examples on the board in order to teach them about the usage of first conditional by asking some CCQs (Is the first sentence present, past or future? What is the second sentence’s tense? Can I use anything else instead of the word “will”? Is it possible for me to study hard? Is it possible to get good grades?). Then I use the sentences that my students made before to clarify the structure focusing on the if-clause and main-clause while pointing out about the reversion and the importance of comma between clauses. Moreover I will clarify the negative and question form of the first conditional. Finally, I will point out that we can use other modal verbs like "can" instead of "will" and imperative form using first conditional.
The students are going to work in pairs and answer the questions that are given to them and after that we will check the answers and I will give feedback on their answers.
The students will be asked a question (What will you do if your internet stops working?) and let them use the TL.
