Description

In this lesson, students learn about food in the context of shopping and through a reading named "Weird Fruit and Veg." The lesson starts with a short lead-in question: "What is your favourite food?" After this short warm-up speaking activity, the teacher will give food-pictures-match activity. Stds will work in groups or pairs then feedback will be pair-check. Next activity will be a pre-teach vocabulary activity. This activity is a guided discovery activity in which stds will match the words with the definitions. Feedback will be given by the teacher. And then std will read the article for gist to match the paragraphs with the titles. Next there will be a T/F activity. Std will read the article in detail to do this activity. The final activity will be a speaking activity which will cover "prefer, would rather, like, don't like." set phrases. The teacher first gives an example by using the phrases and board them on the board. Then teacher will ask stds work in pairs /groups to do the same speaking practice.

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about food in the context of weird fruit and vegetables

  • To provide practice of food names (vegetables, fruit, dairy products,etc.) in the context of weird fruit and vegetables

Procedure

Lead-in activity (4-5 minutes) • Speaking

On this stage, I will start with a short interactive lead-in question: "What is your favourite food?" First I will answer this question by using some food names and then I will nomite the stds to answer the same question.

Pre- teaching vocabulary (2-3 minutes) • Vocabulary

On this stage, std will be given a worksheet which cover some vocabulary of food from the page of the book. They will look at some photos of food and their photo. They will match them. The check will be pair-check.

Pre- teaching vocabulary (3-4 minutes) • Vocabulary

On this stage, the exercise is a pre-teach vocabulary of the reading. This is a guided discovery activity in which stds are expected to match the words taken from the reading and then match them with the definitions. The check will be done in pairs. If necessary, FB from teacher will be provided.

Paragraph-Title matching activity (2-3 minutes) • Reading for gist

On this stage, std are expected to read the article made of short paragraphs and then put the titles onto the correct paragraph. They will read individually, however, they can work in pairs/groups to do the matching exercise. And then they will check each other.

True/False activity (4-5 minutes) • Reading for detail

On this stage, std will working on the same worksheet with different activity this time. In this activity, stds will read the article in detail and then answer the T/F question. Here stds will do reading activity alone;however, they will work in pairs/groups to do the T/F exercises. The check will be done as pair work.

Give your opinion about fruit/vegetables/food (8-10 minutes) • Speaking

On this stage, the main focus will be on speaking. The teacher will ask std to share their opinion by about food by using the phrases like "I prefer, I'd rather, like, don't like." To ease this activity, the teacher will first give her opinion and then nominate students to share opinions just like she has done.
