Procedure (16-20 minutes)
In this stage, the students are going to look at the picture of a girl who has an exam and decide if she is a pessimist or an optimist.
The students are going to be taught the meaning of the vocabularies: pessimist (adj.) — optimist (adj.) — anxiety (n.) — in advance (idiom). They will try to match the words with the AI-generated photos.
In this stage, the students are going to scan the text and do task 5b and try to understand what "defensive pessimism" is.
In this stage, students are going to work in pairs and do task 5c (filing the gaps), 5d (try to understand different meanings of the word "wrong" in different contexts) 5e (try to find the actions to prevent problems before a flight) and we will discuss the answers together.
In this stage, after learning about optimism and pessimism, I will ask the students whether "defensive pessimism" is a good idea and whether they have ever behaved this way in their own lives. We will then discuss the topic together.
