Description

In this lesson, students practice in listening and speaking.The lesson starts with some pictures that indicate some jobs. We will talk about the jobs and move on listening activities. The first listening activity consists of general information but the other one consists of detailed information.These are followed by a vocabulary activity and finally we will move on speaking.

Main Aims

  • To develop students' listening/speaking skills with detailed and general information.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To introduce the students some vocabulary and encourage them to speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show 3 pictures that indicate some jobs to Ss and stick the pictures on the white board. Ask ss what are these jobs.(author-journalist-ghost writer) Write the jobs on the white board and make drillings. If the ss cannot know what is the ghost writer, discuss with them what kind of this job.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss look at the definitions of the ghost writer and choose one of the description.(page 18,ex:1) Then they listen to interview with Andrew Crofts and check their answer. T gives more details about the ghost writers.

While-Reading/writing (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/writingtasks

T divides the class into three groups and each group will be a ghost writer. Ss write something about a famous person. If necessary-T explains that these famous people want to write a book about their lives but they have no ability so they work with a ghost writer. Ss write a short paragraph as a group and when they finish,one volunteer of the groups read their paragraph.

Controlled speaking (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference speaking tasks.

Page 18,ex:2. Ss work in pairs and discuss the questions about the ghost writer and positive/negative sides of this job.

Semi-controlled speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Page 18, ex:3. Show some of the books that Andrew Croft has ghosted. Ask them which book is the most interesting. T asks different questions about the books for leading the ss to speak. -Which book do you want to read first? Why? -Do you think is it a real story? -Look at the cover of second book and guess what is about? etc.

Detailed Listening (3-5 minutes) • To develop ss listening skills be finding out specific details

Before listening, ask Ss why Andrew became a ghost writer. Ss read and choose one of the explanation. Then they listen Andrew Croft's explanation and ss check their answer.

Vocabulary&listening (7-10 minutes) • Introduce to students some vocabulary

Page 18, ex 2. Before listening to rest of the interview with Andrew Croft, elicit the words in the box. Write them on the white board and make drillings. Give clear examples and make sentences which include the words in the box. Then continue with the listening.

Listening/speaking (8-10 minutes) • Ss listen for detailed understanding and then share their thoughts

Ss listen to the rest of the interview and they tick the reasons why Andrew enjoys being a ghost writer.They check the answers. Ss work in pairs and discuss about being a ghost writer is an interesting job or not? If time - ss share their thoughts with their classmates.
