In this lesson the Ss will learn about present perfect simple with been and gone in context of marathon and sports. They will do some reading passage about two marathon runners and their journey. Then they also do a guided discovery activity in which they will be introduced been & gone. They will also do some exercise to practice their TL.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Elicit CCQ: I have been training. I am going to run for 15km in an event. Do you know what that event is called? Show Picture of people running in a marathon on the WB. CCQs: Have you been to a marathon? In pairs with your partners can you discuss what happens in a marathon

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Instructions: I give you two mins read through this passage. T gives out HO ICQ: How many time have I given you? Instructions: Now in pairs discuss what is this passage about. ICQ: Are we going to discuss in Turkish or English. Ss feedback... Instructions: In this exercise you are going to choose the answer & circle it. ICQ: What are you going to do? Are you going to do it in pairs? No Feedback: Ss will check in pairs first while T will hight light the answer key on WB. *if someone has done the questions they can come up on the board and highlight them. CCQs: Did the Dr. Martin and Dr. John took seven days to complete their marathon? yes Did Dr. Martin and Dr. John stay in New york for the party? No Did they the marathon start from Patagonia? yes

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Instructions: With your partner in pairs can you list the places in order they went to in a min? you can repeat the countries. ICQ: Are we going to do this individually? Can we repeat the countries? How much time do we have? Ss will write down the list of continents they have been in last a week. T will show a timeline on the board with the countries on as an answer key. Elicitation: Did Dr. John go to in London in the past? How did you figure it out they are going to be in London after the marathon. T models a sentence on the board. * In last week, they have been to the Antarctic, Sydney, Singapore, London, and Cairo... * Dr. John has gone to London... T underlines the word been to London and gone to London on the WB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T with the help of the timeline will explain the meaning of been and gone. T will elicit examples from the text to help in the meaning. T will also give them the right pronunciation of the been /biːn/ Ss will be drilled on it. T will also show through the model sentences the form of been and gone ( gone/been + to)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The passage is divided into two parts. Ss in pairs will get different passages. Instructions: Look at the passage and choose been and gone to complete it. You are going to do this activity alone. ICQ: Are you going to do this activity in pairs? Ss will be given HO of the activity. Instructions: your partner has the other part of the story. Answer key will be displayed on the WB Ss will be asked to tell each other what happened in their part of the story.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will ask them to look at a gap fill of a dialogue with been and gone and ask them to fill it out. Ss in pairs will check the answers. T will ask them to practice the dialogue with their partners.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will be asked to get up and they will be asked to discuss these questions amongst them selves. * What are the most popular sport in your country? *What are the most important sporting event in your country? *Describe a sporting event that you have attended. T will do error correction
