Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about answering questions in the context of Quiz night show

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a answering questions in the context of Quiz night show

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ask them if they are familiar with quiz shows and how they work. if yes, allow them to tell their experience. if no, give them the meaning and example.

Pre-Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I ask the students to have a quick look over the questions and sentences in practice A and B. then, I'll ask them to read the question A.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will play the audio file for them for the first time and let them find the answers. the answers will be checked in pairs or by whole class. if the students have answers different than the correct one , ask them how they got to that answer. if everyone corrected their answers, we move on. if not , play the audio file again. after answering all questions correctly, we move on to exercise B

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will play the audio file for them for the first time and let them find the answers. the answers will be checked in pairs or by whole class. if the students have answers different than the correct one , ask them how they got to that answer. if everyone corrected their answers, we move on. if not , play the audio file again. this exercise is T or F, so students need to come up with reasons for their answers when asked and come up with a reason.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Plan A. Ask them how they think they would do in a quiz show. will they be able to answer the questions mentioned in the listening and win the prize? Plan B. The class can be paired in groups and have a mock quiz show type of activity with things they have learned in the class thorughout the semester. for example, how to spell certain words or what is the correct sentence.
