  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of family relations


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am using the same context as Becky so I will just show the pictures Becky used and remind Ss the names and topics they worked on. (try to elicit names and other info)

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I show pictures of families with their names (name of each person) and give Ss the first handout. - Read these sentences, change them into new sentences with the same meaning (like model) and monitor. - After some time i will ask them to check their answers in pairs and monitor. - Then I will give the answer key and check.

Teach (8-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I introduce the form at this stage and try to elicit as much as I can instead of giving explanations. I also mention the difference between possessive 's and contraction of is. again i will try to avoid unnecessary TTT.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

- I will give them the second HO. - You see 2 names, write the relation between them like the model sentence. (monitor) - After some time I will tell them to check their answers in pairs. (monitor) - Then I will give them a FB with mistakes they made on WB and give them the answer key.

Free practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- I will give Ss color papers with having two piece from each color. - Write the names of 3 family members you want to talk about. - Change your paper with the person with the same color. - Write a question about each family member of your friend (using the model question) - Go to your pair and ask and answer the questions. (monitor, write down mistakes) - I will give them FB on WB using their mistakes.
