Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about the use of the positive and negative form of the Present Simple Tense and will put it to use in speaking exercises. Students will use the context of the text they read in previous lesson and carry out vocabulary tasks based around the theme free time activities and will develop spoken examples of their own using the grammar taught and the context providing.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Vocab Revision: fill in the gaps) (9-12 minutes) • To practice using vocabulary

The T greets the students The T gives out the Vocab fill-in HO The T gives instructions "Try to remember the free time activities from the previous lesson. Complete the expressions. You have 3 min" The expressions are written on the board The T elicits answers from students and writes them on the board 5 nouns are written on the board The T emphasizes the correct pronunciation and drills the words in a choral repetition The T gives the instructions ''Complete the expressions with the words'' The T elicits the answers from students and writes them on the board The T gives the instructions ''Complete the expressions with one word of your own'' The T demonstrates on the WB Check the SS's ideas

Stage 2 (Writing) (6-9 minutes) • To get SS write about their free time activities

The T asks SS ''What is happiness for you?'' The T demonstrates her own ideas on the board The T gives out the hand outs The T gives the instructions ''Write 6 activities that make you happy. You have 3 min''

Stage 3 (Mingling activity) (6-8 minutes) • To get SS to know each other better by reading each other's free time activities

The T collects the hand outs and sticks them to the board The T asks the whole class to come to the board The T gives the instructions ''Read the answers ans guess who is the person. Write his or her name on the top'' The T monitors SS and participates in the activity

Stage 4 (Speaking) (4-6 minutes) • To present and practice the negative form of the Present Simple Tense of the 3rd person singular

The T asks what is unhappiness The T tells the things that make her unhappy The T gives the instructions ''Work in pairs. Tell your partner what makes me unhappy'' The T nominates a student to demonstrate an example to the whole class The T monitors the SS The T elicits answers from SS

Stage 5 (Practice) (7-10 minutes) • To make SS able to produce their own sentences on the free time activities using the negative form of the Present Simple Tense

The T splits the class into groups The T gives out the hand outs The T gives the instructions ''Tell your group what things you do not like doing. Tell your group what the person who is sitting next to you does not like doing'' The T monitors the students The T nominates the S and asks him/her to tell about his/her partner's dislikes
