A1 - grade 3-5 level

Description

The ss will learn the names of different school disciplines and how to address teachers. The ss will also learn to use some related functional language.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of school disciplines in the context of people who help me.
  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for talking about ones teachers in the context of ppl who help me

Subsidiary Aims

Perhaps the most important element of any plan is the part where we say what our aims are.Jeremy Harmer in The Practice of English Language Teaching

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As a warmer, and a test of the ss abilities the T will begin with regular greeting questions with the whole class, and with individual ss. The T then asks ss about himself, what he told them before. He then asks the ss to ask each other how they come to school, and to then tell him how many come with each mode of transportation.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The T attempts to make ss guess the disciplines by writing their subject matter on the BB or acting it out.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T goes for a WC reading of p.13. The T then asks about what ss don't understand, or rather checks their understanding with questions. And clarifies whatever is important. The WC goes for a second reading. And then a role playing with 2 volunteers. The WC then reads p.14. Then same process, the T clarifies the names and denominations of the teachers as well as whatever else might cause problem.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The T asks ss to go back to p.14 and answer activity B. The T might do Tina's part on the BB if necessary

Extra (5-15 minutes) • give a break to the ss while providing general exposure to the English language

Follow the "Song of the Sea" movie (8mins)
