Description

In this lesson, students will extend their knowledge of words and phrases related to food and cooking. Then students will listen people answering questions about food and then they will read an article about new research on how different foods can affect your mood. In the second half of the lesson, students will listen an interview with a chef and this leads to the grammar focus, which is on the present simple and continuous. The lesson will end with a speaking activity where students can use the words about food and cooking.

Procedure

Warm-up (5-6 minutes) • to wake Sts up and get their attentions

The teacher will ask general quesitons to the Sts.

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will write FRUIT on the board and then put Sts in pairs and give them a minute to write down five words for fruit. Feedback: The teacher will elicit the answers from the students. Also, asks Sts which fruit is the most popular in their country.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (18-20 minutes) • to introduce vocabulary and prepare Sts for the next level

In the book, there is a food quiz. The teacher will let Sts answer the questions in groups. FB: eliciting their answers. On p.152 there is a vocabulary bank, sts will complete this section in pairs. FB: eliciting their answers and drilling for the pronunciation of the new words.

Listening and speaking (24-25 minutes) • Listening and talking about food and cooking

The teacher will check the meaning of ready-made food and feeling abit down and then let the Sts read the questions and then listen the audio and match each speaker to a question. they will listen twice. FB: eliciting answers. And it's their turn now. Sts will ask and aswer the questions in pairs.

Reading (23-25 minutes) • read about new research on how different foods can affect on your mood.

First, the teacher will check the meaning of carbohydrates and proteins. Then we will talk about which food has carbohydrates and proteins. Then, Sts will discuss about the title of the reading. After that, Sts will read and answer the questions about reading. FB: eliciting answers. Finding adjectives in the article for the verbs and nouns in the list.

Listening and speaking (2) (17-20 minutes) • listening and speaking about restaurants words.

First, Sts will ask and answer the questions with a partner. Then, listen to an interview about Steve Anderson and number the photos in the order he mentions. After that, listen again and tell why he mentions them. FB: eliciting answers. Then listen to Part 2 and answer the questions. FB: eliciting answers. Finally, they will talk about themselves with a partner.

Presentation of the target language (TL) (23-25 minutes) • to introduce the TL and to provide meaning, form, practice (MFP)

In this part, students will be questioned about Present Simple and continuous. The teacher will write some sentence in Present simple and continuous tenses and the sts will discuss the meaning of the sentences. Concept checking questions (CCQs): Is it happening now? , Is it a temporary action?, Does it usually happen? Then, move on to the practice section, first sts will have a controlled practice and then they will have semi-controlled one. p.7 and p132. FB: eliciting the answers.

Practicing the TL (speaking) (18-20 minutes) • to practice the TL

Sts will make questions and then ask their partners with present simple and continuous. FB: error correction on the board. Lastly, another speaking activity about general things on food. With this section they will learn how to give their opinions too. FB: if necessary error correction on the board.

If time activity (18-20 minutes) • to be able to complete the lesson

The teacher will use extra activities to practice grammar and speaking about food. FB: eliciting answers and if necessary error-correction on the board.
