To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about Friends gathering, food refill in the context of please, great, hey, like, style
Procedure (31-47 minutes)
-Greet my students and ask about their weekend. -As all the students are ladies so I expect them help in the household chores and use it as a smooth transition to the game. -Ask them to guess the sound that and the first team to guess is going to take a point. -Announce the winning team and elicit the lesson's context. "Today we are talking about food and some vowel sounds."
-Show a picture and generate interest about the characters and setting. -Show 3 questions and ask ss to guess their answers from the picture and report the guesses they agreed on.
-Give instructions to listen and check if their guesses are correct or not. -Discuss their feedback. -Ask them if they have ever had a similar party and if they enjoy such gatherings or not.
-Ask ss to listen again and complete the missing words in the script. -Let ss check their answers together and share them with the teacher. -Highlight that we listened about food and it's time to discuss the vowel sounds.
-Elicit what vowels are in English then start to highlight the sound by each word in their answers in listening 2. -Use my hand gestures and body to let them feel the sounds. -Ask them to place the sound in some words and give example of words have the same sound if they can.
-Ss will listen and circle the correct word (minimal pair) as a controlled practice. -Ss will play the "Escape Room" game to find out the password to get out of the room as a semi controlled practice. -Ask ss to act a role play in pairs that includes lots of words with the covered sounds while the others should listen to vote for the best actor and who didn't mispronounce any of the words. -Discuss the content feedback and praise my students. -Give language feedback if they made any mistakes.
