Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about safely crossing the road in Ho Chi Minh city in the context of the reading passage

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a to learn new action words and phrases in the context of the reading passage

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

reminding them about superlative adjectives and practicing them a bit. then talking about safety in the streets and roads.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

teach the students the meaning of the phrases( wave\waving at someone, save\saving someone, cross\crossing the road, survive\surviving something). they will be asked to use these words in phrases.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

ask the students to read the passage and answer questions about the passage./ what is the safest way in crossing the street? what ways do you use yourself?.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

ask them to do activity B and then we check the answers. again using and repeating the blocking words as we go on

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

i ask them questions from part D and let them give long answers and talk about their own experiences.
