Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a sending and replying to invitations by emails in the context of socializing

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about invitations in the context of socializing
  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about invitations in the context of socializing where students underline useful phrases

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

How can we send a message to someone? Is it by letters or e-mails ? What can you say in the email ?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students will be divided into groups where they can read many invitations for different occasions like meeting ,wedding, and stay for the weekend. Students will read six invitations and categorize them under each of the three occasions. Categorizing is an engaging activity that can meet many multi-intelligence characteristics.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students will read the six invitations again and underline the useful phrases for :1. inviting 2. accepting 3.refusing invitations. After underlining, teacher will ask students to categorize the phrases under the three categories using WordWall. The use of technology can increase the power of participation among students. They will do the task in pairs. Then teacher will highlight the pronunciation of the contracted form. As well as, the intonation of making polite request.

Productive Task(s) (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ask students to write an email to their friends using the occasion they want (wedding-meeting-dinner). Students will work individually to write an email. Give clear instruction: look at the six invitations you read. write like one of them to send to your friend or partner. work alone. you have from 10 mins.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Monitor and help students where needed. Take notes while monitoring and write them on the white board. Praise students when they finish writing. Ask students to look at the white board and find the mistake. Draw students attention to the correct form of writing.
