Procedure (45-55 minutes)
I start by asking students about their hobbies. I lead the conversation towards playing games, to set the context and activate students’ prior knowledge. Then I bring the topic of "game nights"- to see if the students know what it means, and their similar experience with it (family nights, sleepovers, etc).
I will set context for the words neccessary to read the text, by using VA and following the discussion: (Team – a group working together) (Trivia – general knowledge questions or facts) (Master of ceremonies (M.C.) – the person who leads an event) (Competition – an event where people try to win)
I ask them to scan the text, followed up by short gist questions: “What is a trivia night?" "why do restaurants run them?” "What do the winning teams get?"
Students are asked to read the text more thoughtfully. After that, I ask what they understood of the text, to answer the practice provided by the book. (B,C,D)
I will ask them topic questions regarding the text, giving the students an opportunity to tell what they think of the text's content and use the words they learned. "Would you like to participate in a trivia night? Why or why not?" "What kind of questions would you be good at answering?" "Tell a memory about a game or competetion that you were in."
