Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about vehicles in the context of crossing the road

Subsidiary Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start by showing them a picture and asking them to name the vehicles that they know or are familiar with. ask them about crossing the road ( what it means)

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

following up to the warmer stage, keep showing them the picture and teach them the new ones that they don't know that are necessary for lesson. the words are : car, bus, truck, bicycle, motorcycle, scooters, transportation.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I ask them to scan the passage and then ask them gist questions. : what is the text about? Where is the dangerous city? how many advices are given for crossing the road?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

have them read the text more carefully. after checking their understanding with CCQ( what did the passage say. what is it about), start answering the text book questions(B<C<D)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

this time is for practicing speaking and using the new words. I ask them about their own experiences while crossing the road, their preferred means of transportation, their advices for crossing the road.
