Description

In this lesson, students will practice speaking in the context of tourist information. They will listen to the audio to get introduced to the useful language and then they will do a matching task for the expressions used in useful language. They will do a role play to practice.

Materials

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of getting tourist information

  • To provide gist and task listening practice in the context of tourist information

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show a photo of tourist office and ask Ss what do they think about this place. Get their inputs and write them on WB. T tries to get related vocabulary form Ss,

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Audio 2.26 will be played for 1 minute. 1-Ss will listen for gist. Ss will be asked to pay attention what Sergey asks. Later they will work in pairs to check their answers for 2 minutes. T will ask a few Ss to share their answers. 2-task listening (Backup)Handouts to be distributed. Ss will be given a list of expressions and ask them to tick the ones Sergei uses. They will check their results with peers for 1 minute.Then check with their groups. Groups will share their feedback with the whole class.(I may skip the 2nd part)

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will distribute the handouts which contain incomplete expressions for the useful language and ask Ss to make full sentences by combining the expressions. Ss will work together in pairs then they will share their results with their group. Groups will share their output with the whole class. T will clarify or correct errors and introduce vocabulary for the productive task. Vocabulary will be chosen according to needs of the Ss.

Productive Task(s)- Role Play (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Preparation: 5 minutes Ss will be divided into two groups. Group A: (Tourists) They will think three things that they can ask the person at the tourist information Group B: (A person at the tourist office) They will think about three recommendations they can give to a tourist. Speaking practice:5 -8 minutes Ss will be in rows (As and Bs). As will ask questions and Bs recommend things to do or places to visit after that they will move to the next tourist information person.After 2/3 rounds

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will use her notes from monitoring. And review the useful language and correct errors.
