Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shares a Google Slide with two image and ask Ss questions: a) Where do you think these people are? (At work, in a café, etc) b) What they may be talking about? (Having an interview, talking about their weekend) c) Are they interested in the conversation? Why/Why not? (Yes, they are smiling at each other. / No, they seem bored) 3. T ask Ss to discuss the questions in an OC. 4. T. annotates in the slides Ss. contributions

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. T. shares screen a Google Slide with the two images and four texts 2. T. explains that Ss will listen to two conversation and, while they listen, they have to decide which speaker (Emily, Tim, Rachel and Simon) goes with wich text (A-D) ICQ's a) Do you choose before, while or after you listen? (While) b) Can two people go with the same text? (No) c) Can two texts go with the same person? (No) 3.T. give Ss 1 minute for them to read the texts. 4. T. plays the recording. Emily --> B Tim --> A Rachel --> D Simon --> C 5. T. nominates Ss. to share their answers with the whole class in an open class feedback. T shows the transcript if necessary

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: - T. shares screen with a Google forms with matching exercise. T. explains that Ss will listen to parts of the conversations again. An they will match the sentences 1-8 to the responses a-h. - T. shares the activity and plays the recording. - Students discuss their answers in an OCFD (1-C, 2-D, 3-A, 4-G, 5-B, 6-H, 7-E, 8-F) - T. shares a google slide with a table to complete. T. explains everyone will work on a certain page of the document. Each table will have Ss's name. - T. explain Ss will put the phrases (a-h) in the correct column: I'm happy for you --> Oh, nice - Oh, great! I'm sorry for you --> Oh, dear - What a shame I'm surprised --> Wow! - Really? - You're joking I'm not surprised --> Oh, right -Ss share their answers in an OCFB -T. asks CCQ's: a) If I say "What a shame", am I happy about what happened? (No) b) If I say "You're joking", did I hear something hard to believe? (Yes) c) When I say "Oh dear", am I showing simpathy? (Yes) Accuracy: -T asks CCQ's: a) Can I say "You are joking" to my boss? (No) And to a friend? (Yes) b) Is it okay if I say "Really?" when a superior asks me for something? (No) Form: -T. explains most of these are fixed expressions that do not grammatically change. "What a shame" can also be "That's a shame" -T. brings Ss attention to the pattern "interjection + adjective-adverb" Pronunciation: -T shares an audio with the correct pronunciation -T asks Ss to copy the intonation

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T shares screen with a Google doc with two activities for Ss to complete. -T. explains Ss first should complete the sentences with "did", "was" or "are". 1) What ______ wrong? WAS 2) ______ you OK now? ARE 3) What ______ you do? DID 4) What ______ you see? DID 5) What ______ it like? WAS 6) Where ______ you go? DID 7) Who ______ you go with? DID 8) Where ______ you stay? DID -Then, Ss should answer these questions with the questions from the previous ex. More than one question can be used in each: Which of those questions can you ask someone who... was ill at the weekend? (1, 2) stayed at home? (3) went to the cinema? (4, 7) went away for the weekend? (5, 6, 7, 8) -Ss complete the activities individually -Ss share their answers in an OCFB.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T. ask Ss to chose one of these times and make notes about what they did: Last weekend - Last week - Yesterday - Before you came to the lesson - On Friday evening -In pairs, Ss will ask and aswer questions about the time they chose, using follow up questions from the previous exercise. ICQ's: a) How many times do you have to choose? (One) b) What do you have to do first: take notes or tell your partener? (Take notes) c) Is it a monologue, one person talking only, or is it a conversation? (A conversation) -Ss work in break-out rooms if possible. T. monitors them. -Ss share what they learnt about their partner in an OCFB -DEC: T. Mention some interesting comments by Ss on what they said while monitoring in BORs. Give FB on M&F errors with useful expressions .
