In this lesson they will learn about Urbanisation and will predict what will happen in 2050 to the mega cities of the world. They will see a video about urbanisation. They will skim and do extensive reading activities in this lesson. At the end they will tell us a few good things about urbanisation and a few bad things.

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about urbanisation in the context of of mega cities and making predictions about the future.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a making predications in the context of urbansiation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*T will introduce the topic by pictures of Dubai 1991 and 2005. Can you list down the difference in both the pictures. After listing down discuss with your partners. ICQ: what are the differences between the two pictures. *T write them on the WB after asking, *T will write urbanization on the board. Introduce it

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

*T will ask Ss to make a list of things they are talking in video. *T will show a video on urbanization. *Ss discuss in PW and what this video was about and check your list with each other if you have listed down all the things the video talked about. T shows the answer key to the Ss on the WB to check in PWs. CCQs Is the video about the past, present or the future? [future] Are they plans or predication?[predictions]

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

*T gives the Reading HO. * T provides the Ss with an exercise they are suppose to number it according to the HO after skimming through for 1 min. *Ss discuss in Pws *T provides answer keys [feedback: elicit the answers]

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

*T will do an activity in pairs T will give out the questions and they have to find the predictions in the article After that the teacher will ask them to read the text again in the group and arrange the reasons in order. {answer key will be provided} {feedback: elicit the answers}

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will ask them to discuss how would they feel about the changes if they happened in Istanbul. How would Istanbul be like in 2050. Ss will discuss in groups.
