Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss dictate times and prices to each other with a detailed dialogue.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Get Ss into small groups and Ss ask each other the times via models of clocks. Each student should change the clocks.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Introduce the places in ex. 7a.Show Ss the pictures which elicit the places and ask them where do they go in their free time. Ss try to guess how much do these places cost, each group says a price. Write the prices on white board and make drilling.

Highlighting (7-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Get Ss in pairs and give them information gap. Ss dictate different prices by asking & answering to each other. Some of the students make the dictation in front of the class. Give Ss page 19, ss listen and write the missing times on the adverts. After they finish, listen&peer check.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Pair work about asking prices. Ss put a dialogue in order which was cut before the lesson. Then Ss practice the pronunciation. Get Ss in pairs to practice the dialogue and then take away the lines. Some of them make a conversation without the words in front of the class. For fast finishers, take the lines of the cut and Ss do it again without the words.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check

Divide the students into two groups and Ss make two circles. Inner circle consists of sellers and outside circle consists of the customers. Teacher gives to sellers some tickets (e.g concert, exhibition etc) and then customers make a dialogue with the sellers. Make sure the circle turns around so every customers buy something else and have a different conversation.
