Main Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in a role play in the context of technology.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice topic-related vocabulary in the context of technology.
  • To practise reading using a text about advantages and disadvantages about technology.
  • To practice useful expressions for discussing the advantages and disadvantages of using technology.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students work in pairs to discuss the following: 🌟 Imagine you wake up tomorrow and there is no technology — (📱 no phones, 🌐 no internet, 💻 no computers, 📺 no TV!) 🔹 In pairs or groups, discuss: ❓ What is the first thing you would miss? 🔄 How would your daily life change? 🌈 Would there be anything positive about this situation?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students read a reading passage about technology and answer the following questions: 1. What are two advantages of technology mentioned in the text? 2. What is one health problem caused by using devices too much? 3. What do experts recommend? Pair Discussion: Ask students to check answers with other group members and then choose some students from two different groups to check their answers.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students will first figure out the meanings of certain vocabulary words independently, then complete another activity in which they match the beginnings and endings of useful expressions.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Task 1: Teacher asks students to work in pairs to ask and answer the following questions: Talk about technology. You should say: 🔹 How you use technology in your daily life 🔹 What you like most about using technology 🔹 If there are any problems with using technology too much Task 2: What technology do you use most in your daily life? How has technology made communication easier? Can you think of one problem caused by technology? In your opinion, how can people use technology in a healthier way? Do you think technology will continue to improve our lives in the future? Why or why not?

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
