Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Prompt Discussion (pairs or small groups): “What makes a good presentation or speaker?” “What do you notice about how people structure their stories?” Instructor elicits: Organization Clear timeline Reflective tone Language choices (e.g., passive voice, cause/effect)

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Cornell Note Setup Students set up: Left column: Grammar, phrases, and key vocabulary Right column: Main ideas or events Bottom space: Summary and opinion

While-Reading/Listening #1 (28-30 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

First Viewing What happened? How did the speaker tell the story? What grammar structures did you recognize? Second Viewing: Focus on: Passive voice Time sequence markers Emotional tone Useful vocabulary

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Peer Review of Notes Compare what they wrote down What passive structures did they catch? Were any statements reported or rephrased? Instructor highlights 3–5 examples and invites paraphrasing or grammar clarification
