Description

Teaching and practising the conjugation of the verb "be" in present simple form

Materials

Abc Gap-fill in handouts

Main Aims

  • To review and practice the present simple form of the verb "be" in positive and negative sentences, asking questions by using "be" in the context of people that students know

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide controlled speaking practise to introduce yourself and to know the others in a good relationship; and To review the vocabulary / lexis of family members

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Giving some small pieces of papers that they will keep them for the a game later on.

Test #1 (10-12 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Target language is about the verb "be". So at first i will make them remember the conjugation on the board via choral drilling and give them Exercice-5-a "fill in the gaps" on the Course Book "Unlimited"(P.11) and their correction by listening of course book CD.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Work in groups in front of the board, conversations in groups of two or three. Speaking and pronounciation practises.

Test #2 (7-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Exercice-1 (is she your sister?" and Exercice-2 "fill in the gaps" on the Course Book "Unlimited"(P.11) and their correction by listening of course book CD.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Free exercices: drawing a flower and make the students write into the flower 5 names from their family or friends or colleagues. Then make them speak in pairs by asking 5 questions eachother and giving answers in 5 positive- 5 negatives sentences, corrections
