Description

In this lesson, students will listen to an audio about extreme weather conditions.Students will be introduced related lexis about the weather.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about extreme weather in the context of living conditions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of extreme weather in the context of living conditions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show a photo of a place where the weather is boiling. Ask what problems people have when the weather is extremely hot, and get different ideas from the class. Then T will show a place of extremely cold and ask about problems when the weather is freezing. Write them down on WB.

Gist Listening (11-15 minutes) • Listening for general idea.

T will introduce Jeevan and Vasily (speakers) and ask Ss try to find answers to the 2 questions. What kinds of weather do they talk about? Who talks about the following things ?(afternoons, driving ,air conditioning, clothes, drinks, temperature, tourists) Ss will work alone then check with pairs and later with their groups

While-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

Ss will be asked to take a note of what Jeevan and Vasily said about the words in the previous exercise. Ss will note individually then check with pairs and later check with their groups. Each group will share their answers and correct answers will be written on WB for whole class.

Vocabulary Presentation (8-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through an exercise (match photos)

T will show a slide with photos of extreme weather conditions.Ss will match photos with the words. They will work alone 1 minutes, then check in pairs (2 min), then check in their groups (3min) Then groups will share their results on WB

Clarification (9-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language (extreme weather conditions)

Twill focus on the words that Ss don't know very well. Pronunciation will be done with whole class. Model and drilling.

Post-Listening (uncontrolled practice to talk about what they have learned) (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to expand on what they've learned

T will introduce this session by sharing what she does when the weather is hot, cold or rainy. Each Ss will write on their own 3 sentences what they do in very hot weather, and what they do in very cold weather. They have 3 minutes to write down. Later some of the Ss will be asked to share.
