Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Activity: Instructor says a series of phrases — students identify if it’s direct or reported speech

Semi-Controlled Practice (33-35 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Main Simulation Task – “Shift Handoff” Roundtable Setup: Students work in triads or small teams Each group receives a case scenario and a set of client and tech notes (I'll generate 5 full cases next) Task Flow: One student plays the vet finishing shift Another receives the handoff and must summarize the case for a supervisor or entering tech Third student acts as the “supervisor” and may ask clarification questions (also in reported speech)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Correction Round – What Was Missed? Students write 2 reported-speech sentences they used during the activity Partners or small groups check for: Verb accuracy Word order Use of correct reporting verbs Instructor highlights some examples on the board for peer review

Wrap-Up & Summary (8-10 minutes) • To close the lesson

Exit Prompt (Optional Writing): “Tell me what a client, colleague, or teacher said this week — using reported speech.” Or: Quick oral recap of “What the client said” + “What we reported”
