Description

In this lesson, students will learn expressions with go.They will see related photos and will use the new words to talk about themselves.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review, clarification and practice of expressions with go in the context of spare time activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of spare time activity

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start with a short speaking session. Ss will have some pictures and by working in pairs they will describe the pictures to each other. Pictures will be linked to the lexis they will learn. Later, a few Ss will share what they talked about.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Words OFTEN and NEVER will be introduced with some visuals. Lexis of spare time activities will be introduced with some pictures. Elicit the words with PW by matching the pictures with the expressions.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will ask to a few Ss about their holiday choices. Do you go skiing ? Do you go to museums on holiday ? Later the Ss will listen the audio 2.31 for correct pronunciation

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will write as a modal on WB, and make it clear the difference between the expressions go + ..ing and go to + ..place. Ss will be asked to work in pairs to talk about the activities they like. Each student needs to make 4 sentences.(2 with go to , 2 with go) Later some Ss will share their holiday activities with the WC. T will monitor and take notes and correct if needed.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will share with the class what she does often on her holidays, what she never does.(presentation_1_tp4) Ss will be asked to work in pairs (different pairs) to share which things they do and which they never do. A few Ss will share what they have learned about their partners. If needed an interim error correction will be added here.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will write down their top 3 holiday activities. They will try to find other Ss who likes the same activities by I asking questions.. Do you often go to museums ? Do you like swimming? This will be done as mingling activity. Ss will try to find people who likes the same type of activities. They will write down the name of the person on their paper and be ready to talk about.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will work in pairs about their family holiday activities.
