Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Firstly Ss do ex 1 where they will look at visuals and discuss as a WC about difficult social situations. Then i will put Ss into pairs to discuss about bella's awkward situations and to share their ideas on why it is awkward in pairs. Then i will elicit suggestions about what she could say. -This is Bella -Where is bella, why are these situations awkward -What are your suggestions about what bella could say

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Then in ex 2. ,i will play recording (7.6) and ask Ss to find out what bella actually said and ask for their suggestions, if their answers were the same or different in exercise 1. I will then get the Ss to read the tapescript and if correction needed i will explain the phrases they do not understand. - Find out what Bella has actually said and tell me your suggestions - Are they the same or different? - Read tapescript

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In ex.3, then i will the get the WC to listen to recording (7.7) , then tell Ss that intonation is very important to convey the intention and meaning because Bella is refusing invitations and offers. Then i will play the recording and pause after each phrase for students to repeat. I will correct and drill if necessary. -Listen to recording -Now i will play the recording and pause after each phrase then i want you to repeat after it.

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Then i will put Ss in pairs and give them 5-10 minutes to write their own dialogues. Then i will walk around the class and provide vocabulary and intonation for Ss to copy. Monitor and correct. - Get into pairs - i will give you 5-10 minuted to write your own dialogue

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Lastly i will put Ss into pairs to practice their dialogues and polite intonation. Then i will monitor and help if necessary. If I'm running out of time i will select only a few pairs to act out their dialogues for the WC. -Get into pairs and practice your intonation. -Now one pair can come up and present their dialogue
