W11 RL Simulations April 21 - Monday
A1-B1 Vets level

Description

Apply all three conditional structures in simulated veterinary contexts

Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • Consolidate understanding of complex conditionals through storytelling

Subsidiary Aims

  • Practice sequencing past events (past perfect), expressing regrets (third conditional), and connecting outcomes (mixed)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Prompt Discussion: “What’s a small decision that had a big effect later on?” “What would’ve changed if things had gone differently?”

Controlled Practice (33-35 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Group Case Building and Analysis Each group receives a brief case prompt Task: Reconstruct the event using past perfect (what led up to it) Use third conditional to reflect on missed or better actions Add a mixed conditional to explain a current consequence Output: Each group presents their case as a report to the class or another group using 3 key sentences: “What happened before” “What should’ve/could’ve happened” “What the result is now”

Semi-Controlled Practice (13-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

One student plays a vet going off-shift The other plays a colleague taking over the case The first explains: What had happened What the client did or didn’t do What they wish had gone differently What now needs to be done Language Use Encouraged: “Had we caught it sooner, we wouldn’t be dealing with this infection.” “If I had insisted on X-rays, this would’ve been resolved already.” “Because we didn’t follow up, we’re still trying to stabilize her.”

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Instructor elicits examples of each structure heard today Students write one example sentence that combines all 3 tenses in a short summary
