Description

In this lesson Students will be introduced to Grammar in present simple tense. Specifically the lesson will be based on WH-questions and Possessive -'s. 5 exercises will be applied which will help distinguish the difference between WH - questions and Possessives (filling in the gaps and rearrange words) Group work in groups of 3 will take place to be able to form spontaneous questions of objects put in front of them

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Present Simple Tense in the context of who we live with, still at home

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversations, Asking Questions and answering in short answers in the context of Who we live with, still at home, Family

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To get students into the lesson context a worksheet with teacher activity be done. SS will have to join WH questions with the answers and then will be corrected with teacher

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Fill in worksheet of Wh questions where students will become familiar with the lesson. Worksheet will be explained and then given out. Individually worked on and then answers will be checked as a class

Highlighting (7-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Exercise 1 : Distinguishing WH- questions with fill in the gap exercise Exercise will be explained and then given to students. Then students will be asked at random some wh questions to see if they have understood

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Exercise 2: Learning how do ask WH- questions with rearrange of words to make questions Distinguishing WH- questions with rearrange of the words exercise Exercise will be explained and then given to students. Example shown on w/b before letting students begin Then students will be asked at random some wh questions to see if they have understood

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Exercise 3; Working in pairs to ask and answer the questions in exercise 2. Students will be put in pairs and asked to ask questions from previous exercise (2). Monitoring and intervening of pair work if required will be done

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Exercise 4: Looking at possessives with filling the gap exercise This is another new topic within the lesson. Topic will be explained and examples will be given before students take on the exercise

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Exercise 5: Group Work of 3 identifying objects and making sentences To end the class and to see if students have understood. Students will be told to identify certain objects spontaneously. Eyes will be closed and partner 1 and 2 will put an object in front of them Then they will open there eyes and told to make a sentence. For example: A :CLOSE YOUR EYES B-C: PUT OBJECTS ON TABLES A; OPEN YOUR EYES AND MAKE SENTENCES ABOUT THE OBJECTS THIS IS A PEN - THIS IS ENZOS BOOK
