Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice vocabulary and collocations related to free time activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give students speaking practice and increase their vocabulary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-In (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will write the days of the week on the board and draw the graph from the book indicating weekend habits. T will tell the students what he did on the weekend and ask students what they did. *Ss will talk about what they did and T will listen and ask questions.

Language/Vocabulary Presentation and Activity 1 (15-20 minutes) • To introduce new vocabulary items: stay, go out

T will introduce the graph and the vocabulary items via the drawings underneath. T will ask one student to read the green sentence and another student to read the blue sentence. T will illustrate his position on the graph by marking an X, then ask students to come up two at a time to mark their spot on the line and write their names underneath the X. Once they are done, T will ask one student "Who is in the green part?" and another "Who is in the blue part?" *One student will read the green sentence and another will read the blue. Students will talk among themselves about who is on which side of the graph.

Activity 2 - Vocabulary and Reading Practice (5-10 minutes) • To introduce new vocabulary items and collocations: cook (meals), phone (friends), meet (friends), go for a walk

T will put 3 pictures from the book on the board and underneath 3 expressions. T will ask the students to match the expressions with the pictures after reading them aloud. T will correct any pronunciation errors. *3 different students will read one sentence each. Students will then match the expressions with the pictures.

Activity 3 - Vocabulary Reinforcement and Speaking Practice (10-15 minutes) • To reinforce newly learned vocabulary through a fun quiz

T will put a blow-up of the quiz on the board and ask students to read each question while he completes the quiz. T will then hand out a quiz to each student and working in pairs one student will ask the other the questions. If there is time, scores will be compared. *Students will complete the quiz by asking their partner the questions and then add up the total score and compare with each other.
