Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks the following questions: - How do you keep in touch with your family and friends? - Do you use social media, like; facebook, twitter, skype? How often do you use them? - How often do you use your mobile phones? Do you keep it open at nights? (5 mins)

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T distributes an exercise on the vocabulary from the listening text to help students think, guess, learn and get prepared. (5 mins)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T plays the listening ex. by splitting the conversations into two and tells ss to take notes on each conversation in the scope of the questions written on the handouts (s)he will distribute (Ex.1. Take notes while you listen). T nominates some ss and opens the answers to discussion. (10 mins)

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T plays the text again asks students to make the T/F exercise in pairs and checks the answers with whole class (ex.2 in the handout) (5 mins) T tells students to make ex.3 in the handout - Think about the questions and then discuss your answers with your partner (5 mins). Then nominate some students for them to share their discussions (3 mins)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T tells ss to make ex.4 and 5 in the handout in pairs and then check the answers by nominating ss. (10 mins) Nominate ss (especially the ss haven't talked) to tell their ideas on the text subject "Facebook and Mobile phones" using the expressions in ex. 4 (from the handout) (2 mins)
