Description

In this lesson , students practice reading through a text about shopping and shopping habbits . The lesson starts with referring back to some shopping-related vocab from the previous lesson and eliciting some new vocab from the text and also a little discussion about their shopping habits . Then they are going to read the text and do some exercises .

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Cheking out the check out in the context of shopping .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a chance for students to use the vocabulary they have learned from the text in a discussion related to the context of shopping .

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Recall the new vocab

-Ask them what they remember from the previous lesson . -Ask them some questions about their shopping habits . -Pair them up and ask them to talk about their shopping habbits .

Pre-Teach vocabulary - Lexis (8-10 minutes) • To familiarize the students with some of the difficult words they will encounter in the text

-Elicit the new vocab by asking questions , showing pictures . -Ask CCQs . -Drill . -Put the new vocab on the WB ,elicit the speliing . -Elicit and mark the stress .

Reading for gist (8-10 minutes) • To get the students understand the gist of the text

-Tell the Ss they are going to read an article about shopping habits. -Give them the HOs . -Tell them to read the first two paragraphs of the article individually . -Tell them to answer the questions in exercise 1 , again individually . -Ask them to check their answers in pairs . -Check the answers for feedack .

Reading for details (10-15 minutes) • To get some more detailed information

-Put them in pairs . -Ask them to read the rest of the text together . -Ask them to answer the questions in exercise 2 together . -Check the answers for feedback .

Freer Speaking practice (5-10 minutes) • To get them use the new vocab

-Put them in groups . -Ask them to discuss the questions in exercise 3 . -Monitor and make notes of errors .
