Description

in this lesson,Ss learn about Wh questions in the present simple through a guided discovery based on eliciting daily routines and using pictures to elicit the questions.This is followed by listening for gist using a conversation about daily routines.Then ,clarification of phonological features and form will be shown.Finally,there is some controlled practice through gap fill followed by a free practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*T write ``daily routines`` on WB and Ss in pairs give 1 example of their daily routines. T show pictures on WB for Ss to predict questions with when,where and how. *handouts with questions to match with the pictures in pairs *Ss answer questions individually and* discuss in pairs T monitor. .

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T ask Ss about the picture in ex1 who the people are, what is going on,where they are.Are they friends?Is he going to work? Ss listen and answer 1a and 1b and check answers in pairs. T monitor. listen again and answer c check in pairs.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss listen to 2a to. T drill wh-questions. Ss answer gap- fill handouts individually and discuss in pairs.

Clarification (2-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Analyse `where do you work?` and `I work in a school`on WB . Ask if we can change the answer to yes,I do to clarify the difference between yes/no questions and wh questions. Show phonological features of connected speech:/wen~dju:/weə~dju:/haʊ~dju:/ and drill full sentences.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss in pairs answer 2b then write answers on board. Ask students for correction if needed. Then Ss in groups ask questions and answer.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

whole class with handouts from exercise 1 in a circle asking and answering questions

questions-answers matching activity (2-4 minutes) • to manage timing

T handouts either a question or an answer to students and they have to match them correctly.
