Main Aims

  • To practice how to write short emails using useful language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson with the following 3 questions: • How do you talk to someone when you’re not with them? Ss brainstorm … Follow up • Have you ever sent a short e-mail? • What was it for?

Sample analysis - Model, layout and useful Language (12-15 minutes) • Ss identify the sections of the piece of writing/Ss identify language needed in the piece of writing

Model I will display 4 short emails between 2 friends, the emails will be in the wrong order; ss will have to organize it in the right order. At the end of the activity I will display the same emails in the right order to use it as a short email model. Layout Ss will work in a fill in the gaps activity. I will show them some useful phrases from the previous activity, the sentences will be missing some words. Ss will have to figure out which word belongs to every single gap. To help Ss, I will give them the words to choose I will take the following three sentences from the layout activities to practice form. Where shall we meet? Structure brake down: Where- Question word Shall- Modal verb (used to express suggestion) We- Subject pronoun Meet- Base form of the verb Grammatical form: Question word + Modal verb + Subject pronoun + Base form of the verb Have you got any ideas? Have- Auxiliary verb You- Subject pronoun Got- Past participle of get Any- Determiner Ideas- Noun Grammatical form: Auxiliary verb (have) + Subject pronoun + got + any + Noun What about the Boston bar? What-Question word About- preposition The Boston bar- Noun phrase Grammatical form: What + about + Noun phrase

Writing part (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I think this activity will be appropriate; I got it from the book. Ss will work in peers in the breakout rooms. Ss will work in peers in the breakout room; they will have five minutes to organize a quick chat using short e-mails. Following the instructions below. Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ater finishing the writting activity ss will have to check their clasmate's emails. I will project a check list on the screen, with four items to consider: 1. Where to go 2. Why to go there 3. Where to meet 4. Useful phrases They need to check each other's writing to see if they included the items above. I will give fb to Ss I will thank Ss for their time
