W10 RL Simulations April 15 - Tuesday
A1-B1 Vets level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
Practice expressing regrets, missed steps, or imagined better outcomes using the third conditional
Subsidiary Aims
-
Improve clarity in sequencing and reflection during interviews and group discussions
Procedure (54-60 minutes)
Prompt: “What’s a mistake or misstep that you (or someone else) learned from in your career?” Ask students to reflect individually and then share in pairs Encourage answers using third conditional: “If we had used sedation, the dog wouldn’t have bitten.” “If I had double-checked the chart, we wouldn’t have vaccinated twice.”
Setup: Students work in pairs or small groups (3 max) Each group receives a realistic vet case report with a mistake, delay, or complication embedded Task: Step 1: Review the case and identify what went wrong or could’ve been improved Step 2: Use the third conditional to rewrite parts of the outcome Step 3: Prepare a 1–2 minute oral report to the class: What happened What they would have done differently Possible alternative outcomes
"Vet-to-Vet: What Could Have Been Done?" In pairs, one student interviews the other about the case they just discussed: “Looking back, what would you have done differently?” “If the owner had called earlier, what would have changed?” Swap roles
