Procedure (54-60 minutes)
“Think of a colleague (past or present) who handled a case very well — or very poorly. What happened?” Have students reflect silently for a minute. Then, in pairs, they briefly describe: Who the colleague was (no names needed) What the situation was What had already happened before the colleague acted Why their actions were effective/ineffective
Partner Work One student is the “interviewer” (another vet or supervisor) One student shares a real or realistic past case from experience Interviewer uses prompts to build a clear timeline of the event: “What had happened before the animal came in?” “What did you notice first?” “Had anyone done anything before you arrived?” “What would you have done differently?” Note-Taking (Cornell-style or Timeline Grid) Interviewers take notes and ask follow-up questions as needed Switch Roles
Form triads or quads Each student shares what their partner’s case was about Practice paraphrasing and summarizing using phrases like: “My partner said the dog had already…” “By the time they got there…”
