To provide clarification of some lexical sets like texture and taste in the context of food..
To provide Ss with a productive activity (Speaking for accuracy) based on the TL.
Procedure (38-50 minutes)
A series of pictures are shown in front of the class and Ss are asked to guess the texture of them by eliciting. Although they may happen to know the word texture, it is a very good idea to clarify the meaning before beginning.
Ss will be given an HO and will be asked to categorize the words on the HO into 3 parts. If they are sure about the meaning, if they are not sure and if they do not know the meaning. Ask them to look at it individually in 3 minutes and then give them another 3 minutes in pairs to talk about it and exchange their views. The teacher must monitor and find out what are the unknown words. Elicit information to get the meaning of the words and then drill, board and finally label them. The second HO will be given containing a matching task in order to re-check the meaning. In the same pairs they are given another 2 minutes to divide the words into texture and taste. Run a quick drilling and board the answers if necessary. The third HO is given on which there is a Puzzle and give Ss 4-5 minutes to solve it. Remember to change the pairs in advance and use ICQs to make sure they have understood the instruction.
Give the last HO including a productive task. Instruct them and ask them to talk about their eating habits during their childhood. while one of them is talking, the other one must take notes and vice versa. Do not forget to mention that they are going to use "used to and didn't used to". Give them 5 minutes and after that go for CCQs and run the feed back session. Extra activity (Just in case): Model a food that you like and one that you hate and describe its taste and texture.Ask them to do the same thing in groups of 4-5 people and the teacher does the same things as in the first follow-up activity.
