Description

In this lesson the students are going to practice the productive skills (speaking). The vocabulary needed for the reading part will be provided. The students are going to read 4 quotations about names and the importance of names in people's life. After that the students are going to match each quotation with the question it answers. The students are going to work in pairs and discuss their answers. After that the students will be divided into 3 groups and each group will discuss different questions from the task#2. After that we are going to discuss it all together.If we have more time we can do an extra activity. The students will be divided into two groups (A,B,). One group will think of pros of having an unusual name and another group will think of cons,We'll write ideas on the white board.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To engage the students

1). I'll start by explaining what does my name mean.I'll also say how this name tends to effect people who have it. I'll ask if the students believe in things like that? I'll ask the students who gave them their names? Do they like their names? What effect their names tend to have on their carriers?2). After that i'm going to show them a slide with a puzzle of different names on it. The students should guess why each name is actually funny? We can make the first one together,than they'll work in pairs.After that we'll discuss it together.

Review and Clarification (6-10 minutes) • to clarify the meaning of unfamiliar words

1)I'll give the students the handouts with the matching. 2). The students are going to complete it individually.3). The students will do the peer-checking, 4). After that we will check all together.

Reading for gist (9-10 minutes) • to practice reading for gist

1).I'll give the students the handouts with 4 quotations about names. 2).I'll ask the students to read through the task before starting it.3).After they finish i'll ask them to complete the matching task.4) They'll compare their answers in pairs.5).We'll have a feedback together.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • to practice speaking in the context of names and naming

1)I'm going to divide the students into three groups (A,B,C).2).The students are going to discuss the quotations. Do they agree with them? Which one they think is wrong? Why? After that we'll discuss it in class. 3) The students will answer the questions from the handout.4) The students will discuss the answers in groups.5) After that we are going to discuss it in class.

Optional activity (5-10 minutes) • to practice speaking in the context of names and naming

1).After that i'll ask the students to work in two groups.(A,B). One group will think of pros and another will think of cons. After that we'll write pros and cons on the board.
