Description

In this lesson, I am going to talk about the tourist destinations and trips to different interesting places. The students are going to learn superlative adjectives and use the grammar knowledge in their fluency practice. The lesson will start with a lead- in and will be followed by grammar presentation, practice and produce activities

  • To provide clarification, practice and review of superlative degree of adjectives in the context of trip to different places, tourism

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation /discussion in the context of trips, travelling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T is going to show some pictures on the screen about the topic the pics are about different parts of Turkey, which are mainly tourist destinations ss is going to discuss the pictures T is asking some questions to engage the ss more Do you think many tourists come to Turkey? Why do tourists come to Turkey? Which places do tourists prefer?

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

To build a context i am going to use ss ideas supported by the pictures displayed on the screen T shows a pic of crowded street and a pic of old part of the city ss tell what they think these places are and how they look is it crowded why so many people are there,etc they tell their thoughts T asks them to find 3 places that are crowded and 3 places that are old

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

After ss finds out the 3 places of crowded and old T asks them to make sentences showing the place that is crowded, more crowded or the most crowded; old - older-the oldest ss make their sentences, they try to build the sentences in comparative and superlative degrees of adjective

Clarification (6-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To present the TL, the T writes the sentences ss made emphasizing 3 different use of the adjectives: the most crowded and the oldest T draws the ss attentions on the meaning, pronunciation and 2 different formations of the superlative degree T clarifies that adjectives are 1 syllable and 2 or more syllables which change the formation of the superlative degree referring back to the comparative degree learned in the previous session T explains syllables of adjectives, spelling changes and pronunciation of the superlatives

Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

after the grammar presentation T gives some controlled practice activities a. complete the table b. open the brackets and use correct superlatives c.correct the wrong sentences ss do the exercise in pairs, check inpairs or groups, get pair /group and teacher feeedback

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T gives ss the exercise to do ss do the exercise first in pairs writing on the hand outs after making the sentences ss mingle around the class finds the people and asks these questions and gets the answers puts on the sheet after the mingling activitiy ss take their seats and WC discusses the questions giving the reasons and more details T gives the feedback

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T is giving here a couple of activities but 1 of these activities will be used, the other 2 activities are planned as back -ups ss are given a task A. Your friend is planning a trip to Turkey for the first time he asks for some information: interesting sights, hotel, historical places, food, transport, safest parts of the city,etc your friend is planning a summer holiday to some hot places Think of some ideas and collect some information for your friend try to give her the best advice: the cheapest hotels, food, shopping centers, nice view, the cleanest area,etc B. You have been to a foreign country. You advise your friend to travel that place because you have really enjoyed your holiday What do you advise him? Your friend is looking for the best, the cheapest, the safest, and the cleanest places c. Work in your group and suggest the best place for a holiday in your country How can he spend his holiday in your country?
